History
It was in the year 1960 when Frans Smith founded the company Frans Smith Builders. They only specialised in the wet trades such as concrete, masonry and plastering. In 1965 they started to build complete houses from earthworks up to the finished product.
While Frans Smith Builders was building up a reputation for good workmanship, his first born son, also named Frans Smith, was busy completing his apprenticeship at Frans Smith Builders, learning all the tricks of the trade from his experienced father.
Frans Smith (the son) began his own Carpentry Company, Frans Smith Carpentry, in 1980 and they specialised in roofs, ceilings, and door hanging while his father was still busy building houses of exceptional quality. It was in 1985 when they joined together as a father and son team and became very popular for their superb project management skills. The company's name then changed from Frans Smith Builders to Frans Smith Building Services.
They did a lot of work for Iscor in Thabazimbi and also did a lot of medium- and high-cost housing all over Pretoria. In 2002 Frans Smith (the father) retired at the age of 67, being an ambassador for the industry. Frans Smith (current owner) since focused on detailed high-cost housing and did a lot of work in the Waterkloof Rigde, Irene, Monument Park and Brooklyn areas in Pretoria.
In 2005 Frans Smith got his son in law, Shaun de Klerk, involved in the company. He taught him all the tricks of the trade and today he is site manager with a diploma in project management and plays a significant role in the success of the company.
Frans Smith's (current owner) son, also Frans Smith (now the 3rd-generation Frans Smith in the company) got involved at the age of 17 and decided to study Quantity Surveying and Construction Management after he matriculated in 2007. During his studies he was continually involved in the company and is now part of the team fulltime. He is an integral part of the team and his responsibilities range between Site Management, Cost Estimates, and Tendering.
Frans Smith Building Services is a father-and-son team with an enthusiastic and optimistic attitude and strong family values. We take every project very seriously and we are always excited when new challenges arise. The main aim of our team is to strive towards client satisfaction while efficiently managing time, cost, quality, and resources.
